PRIVATE CARE GUIDE
From result to follow-up: what actually happens
A useful appointment should feel structured, not rushed: share the result and history, clarify what is being treated, receive written instructions, discuss partners and precautions, then leave with a clear route for follow-up.
Private consultation
What should I prepare?
Bring the full result rather than a cropped message. Note when exposure and symptoms began, where samples were taken, recent antibiotics, allergies, medicines, pregnancy possibility and any previous STD treatment.
- Complete laboratory report
- Symptom and exposure timeline
- Sample sites and test date
- Allergies and current medicines
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Questions about privacy and partner notification
What happens during the consultation?
The clinician connects the result to symptoms and exposure sites, checks for complications, explains whether more testing is needed and discusses a condition-specific plan. You should be invited to ask questions and consent before care.
Listen
Your result, concerns and priorities are reviewed without judgment.
Assess
History, symptoms and any need for examination or additional samples are considered.
Explain
The diagnosis, treatment goal, alternatives and expected course are described.
Plan
Written treatment, partner, precaution and follow-up steps are agreed.
What should be documented?
You should know what you were given, why, how to use it, important effects or interactions, what sexual precautions apply, when to seek help and whether a follow-up or repeat test is advised.
